ECESC Offerings

Verbal Intervention

Verbal Intervention™ (VI) instills the confidence and skills to verbally de‑escalate disruptive behaviors and prevent further escalation. This training is valuable for every staff member who interacts with students or parents and is ideal for staff who don’t experience the kind of higher risk situations that require physical interventions.

Training Format: Blended (Online modules + 3-hour in-person session)

Includes: Online modules, Participant Workbook, Certification Card

Objectives:

  • Learn proactive verbal de-escalation strategies.

  • Understand the effects of trauma and the psychology of the brain on the person in crisis as well as the responding individual.

  • Person-centered to help ensure a consistently inclusive and culturally sensitive approach to a person displaying crisis behavior.

  • Understand limit-setting strategies when verbally intervening to de‑escalate defensive behaviors.

  • Recognize opportunities for post‑crisis learning.

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® (NCI) provides your staff with the skills to safely recognize and respond to everyday crisis situations that may involve more challenging behaviors. NCI training is designed to help you achieve compliance with current legislative initiatives and best practices.

Training Format: Blended (Online modules + 6-hour in-person session)

At ECESC, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention is Day 1 of each 2-day series.

Training Includes: Online modules, Participant Workbook, Certification Card

Objectives:

  • Safety interventions and disengagement techniques for escalating risk behaviors.

  • Objectives in Verbal De-escalation are included in this training.

    • Learn proactive verbal de-escalation strategies.

    • Understand the effects of trauma and the psychology of the brain on the person in crisis as well as the responding individual.

    • Person-centered to help ensure a consistently inclusive and culturally sensitive approach to a person displaying crisis behavior.

    • Understand limit-setting strategies when verbally intervening to de‑escalate defensive behaviors.

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® With Advanced Physical Skills (APS) equips your staff with the decision-making skills needed to confidently assess and address risk in the face of complex behaviors. It combines verbal intervention strategies and restrictive interventions with advanced physical skills for the highest-risk scenarios.

Training Format: Blended (Online modules + two 6-hour in-person sessions)

At ECESC, Advanced Physical Skills is Day 2 of each 2-day series. To participate in Advanced Physical Skills, participants must complete the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention session on day 1.

To have a trained team for these advanced interventions, schools need to train at least three (3) team members.

Training Includes: Online modules, Participant Workbook, Certification Card

Objectives:

  • Safe and advanced deceleration, disengagement, and physical intervention techniques for situations involving dangerous behaviors.

  • Intervene in high- and medium-risk situations that don’t require advanced skills.

  • Objectives in Verbal De-escalation are included in this training.

    • Learn proactive verbal de-escalation strategies.

    • Understand the effects of trauma and the psychology of the brain on the person in crisis as well as the responding individual.

    • Person-centered to help ensure a consistently inclusive and culturally sensitive approach to a person displaying crisis behavior.

    • Understand limit-setting strategies when verbally intervening to de‑escalate defensive behaviors.

    • Recognize opportunities for post‑crisis learning.

Certified Instructor Training

Schools can get staff trained through CPI to be certified instructors for their teams. In this training, participants first go through the CPI training (for initial certification) and then learn how to teach the Foundation Course.

Training Format: Blended (Online modules + three days of in-person sessions)

Those getting initial certification will participate in all three days.

Those renewing their certification will participate in day 3 of the in-person learning.

Training Includes: Online modules, Participant Workbook, Certification Card

Objectives:

  • Effectively teach adult learners.

  • Educate staff about the risks of using restraints.

  • Handle difficult questions and challenging participants.

  • Be proficient at teaching both prevention techniques and physical interventions.

  • Develop an ongoing Training Process.

  • Access CPI's free follow-up services to customize and support your ongoing training.
